A sad abundance of bridge jumpers makes the film a broad study of depression that depresses you. Directorial (and consequentially audience) distance resembles the camera’s—miles off, and disquietingly calm. Family participation and thwarted attempts work to dismiss criticism of snuff, but the movie still remains both sober and sensational.
